Hi-Lo tags and running count

For Hi-Lo, ranks 2 through 6 each add one; 7, 8 and 9 add zero; ten-value ranks and aces subtract one. Add the observed tags to the starting running count. The sequence 2, 3, 4, T, A changes the count by +1.

True count is running count divided by estimated decks remaining. A +8 running count with four decks remaining is +2. The estimate of cards remaining is an input, and rounding conventions can matter in systems that use indexed decisions.

Bet spread arithmetic is separate from advantage

A chosen 1-to-8 spread with a $10 base means $10 at one unit and $80 at eight. Enter the multiple you want to translate; the tool does not infer an appropriate bet from a count or claim a fixed advantage per true-count point.

A Hi-Lo count alone does not establish expected value or a full strategy. A continuous shuffle, uncertain shoe state and game-specific rules change the model. For supplied session assumptions use blackjack analysis, and for a known remaining shoe use blackjack probabilities.
