Resolved-wager house edge for place bets
On two fair dice there are six ways to make seven, three ways each to make 4 or 10, four ways to make 5 or 9, and five ways to make 6 or 8. Ignoring non-resolving rolls, a point with w ways wins before seven with probability w/(w+6).
For Place 6, p = 5/11 and net payout ratio is 7/6. Expected net per stake is p × 7/6 − (1−p) = −1/66, or a 1.51515% house edge per resolved bet. Place 5 has 4% and Place 4 has about 6.66667% under the standard ratios.
True odds have zero edge in the stated model
For an odds wager after the point, the payout ratio is 6/w. Substituting that ratio into the same expected-value formula yields zero. This does not make the accompanying Pass or Come wager zero-edge.
These figures are per resolved wager, not per dice roll, and assume no commission. The full Pass/Don’t Pass come-out cycle and buy/lay fees need their own settlement models. Use the lay payout calculator for a winning lay settlement.
